Archaeological monitoring at 383 George Street, Sydney has uncovered a well that was cut into the natural sandstone. The well is considered to be associated with the commercial industries operating on George Street as early as the 1820s. The well was found within an allotment of land occupied by the Smithers family from at least c.1816.
